Synopsis

In this long-awaited B-Side to Hard Core Logo, Bruce McDonald brings a new rock ‘n’ roll persona to light: Care Failure of the band Die Mannequin, who claims to be channeling the spirit of Joe Dick. Fifteen years have passed since Bruce completed his infamous rock documentary Hard Core Logo, a gritty account that chronicled the demise of that punk rock outfit and captured lead singer Joe Dick’s on-camera suicide. Though he has since lived with the guilt of immortalizing Joe’s death on film, Bruce has moved on to become a directorial success. When Bruce arrives at an overgrown complex in Okeechobee, Florida to interview Care Failure, he is immediately seduced by her dark spirit.

Bruce follows Die Mannequin to a recording studio in a remote wintry town, hoping to get more answers and to document the band’s recording process. Here, he discovers that Joe’s bitter punk mentor, Bucky Haight, has been brought in to crack the producer’s whip, push Care to the brink, and record something extraordinary. Bruce is convinced that Care is suffering a genuine case of possession and stays to document the recording process. As bizarre events unfold, Bruce’s experiences revitalize and cure him of his trauma about Joe.

Whistler Film Festival (World Premiere)

“If the original Hard Core Logo is an amphetamine-fueled street fighter trying to punch through your face to get to your brain, Hard Core Logo 2 is a self-effacing, philosophical assassin, humbly and genially clowning around in front of you for your pleasure, and deftly screwing on the silencer when you turn your back.”
